The questions that actually arrive, answered the way we would answer them in the workroom.
How many pieces come in the box?
It is written on every garment page, in the details table and on the badge over the photograph. A two piece set is a jacket and trousers. A three piece adds a waistcoat in the same cloth. A five piece boys set adds a shirt and neckwear. Single pieces arrive on their own. Right now the rail holds 17 two piece sets, 23 three piece sets, 4 boys sets and 34 single pieces.
What is the difference between a notch, a shawl and a peak?
A notch has a step cut into the collar and reads as daytime. A shawl runs in one unbroken curve and reads as evening, which is why every one of our 10 tuxedos has one. A peak points upward towards the shoulder and broadens the chest line. There is a table on the front page with the counts and where each belongs.
Does a set come with a tie?
Some do. 34 pieces on the rail arrive with neckwear, 6 of those with a bow tie and the rest with a long necktie. The details table on each page has a row for it, and the row only appears when there is something to say.
Will linen crease?
Yes, and no finish stops it. Linen yarn has almost no spring, so a crease across the lap stays until steam takes it out. That is the trade for a jacket that does not turn a warm room into an ordeal. A linen blend creases less and breathes a little less. We cut 9 pieces in linen and linen blend.
How do the sizes run?
Read the size chart on the listing at our retail partner, and measure a jacket you already own rather than measuring yourself. Chest across the back and sleeve from the shoulder seam tell you more than any label letter. Slim and regular here describe how close the cloth sits, not two different chest measurements.
Where do I actually buy?
At our retail partner. The button on each garment page opens that exact piece on their site. The price you see on our page is the one we recorded when this site was last built, and theirs is the one you pay.
Why is the price on your page different?
Because ours is a snapshot and theirs is live. Prices on the rail move without telling us. Treat the number here as a rough guide to where a piece sits, and the number at our retail partner as the real one.
What if it does not hang right?
Start the return from the order in your account with our retail partner. Then, if you like, write to us about the fit itself. We can say whether another cut on this rail would sit differently, which is usually the more useful half of the problem.
Do you have a shop I can visit?
No, and there is nothing here to try on. This is a catalogue with descriptions written by people who look closely at the cut. The buying, sending and returning all happen at our retail partner.
